After being extracted and indexed, a documents metadata can be used to drive helpful searching techniques that will take your users past the simple search box approach. Metadata can help get users to the content they’re looking for faster, by helping fuel advanced search features such as guided navigation, presenting category lists that users can drill down through, etc. Unfortunately, document metadata is not always present, populated consistently, accurate, or sometimes even possible to store within a document.

There is, however, a solution. Norconex has built a system to intercept data on its way into your search engine, that can apply required metadata to the incoming content. This metadata is applied to the content before it can be searched on, and will appear to your search engine as if it was part of the original document. Using this seamless method of decorating your content with appropriate metadata, you can make sure that the metadata fields you require will always be present, valid and accurate. We offer several different implementation options within our custom metadata tagging solution. This means we can definitely help you find a metadata tagging approach that will work best for your content and organization, and will be easy to maintain.

While our custom metadata tagging system is usually used to tag documents being indexed for searching, it can definitely be used in other situations.
